Silk has been a key feature of the Spring/Summer collection at Noa Noa this year. With a romantic vintage theme in mind, pretty silky dresses, scarves and blouses have dominated the rails. But it is the silk trousers that have really caught peoples eye this season. While the silk dresses are, of course, elegant and beautiful as ever, it is the element of the unexpected that really gives the silk trousers the edge – they’re not an easy style to come by. And what’s not to love about a pair of loose silk trousers? Combining glamour with casual, they have to be one of the most wonderful garments a woman can own and are the perfect pair of light trousers for the summer.

If the idea of silk trousers is daunting then Noa Noa is here to help – with three different shapes and a range of colours and prints, you’ll be hard pushed not to fall in love with at least one pair. The Yoko Viscose trousers have been an unmitigated success (in fact, we only have selected sizes left! – click here to view online). Available in solid black or in a beautiful sepia coloured floral print, this Hareem shape trouser works well on almost every shape. Sitting low on the hips and with a gathered elasticated ankle, the light, looseness of the silk works perfectly for the fashionable Hareem shape and leaves you feeling soft and comfortable. Try teaming with a little boxy vest, such as the Casis Cotton top, in order to show off the pretty art-deco inspired waistband, and the Wild Shoe, a pair of bright pink tie up wedges.

If the Hareem shape doesn’t grab you, why not try the Sunflower Sateen, a tapered leg shape. Still sitting low on the hips, these trousers have a comfortable elasticated waistband and pretty ribbon draw-string detail. Soft pleats at the top and deep pockets mean that they are still a loose style at the top, but taper gently in, lower down the leg. Try rolling them up at the bottom and teaming with flat sandals. Or, for a dressy-casual look, why not team with high top sneakers and a denim jacket?

The third style, the Anoux Silk trousers, combines the other two styles. Like the Sunflower Sateen, they have the elasticated waistband, ribbon detail and pleating at the top. But like the Yoko Viscose style, they also have the elasticated ankle. The main difference between the Anoux Silk trousers and the other styles, is the fabric. Made from 100% silk (rather than viscose, or a silk blend), these trousers have a matt silk finish, rather than gloss, making them look a little less dressy.

Silk is a highly desired fabric which feels sublime and looks beautiful. Here at Noa Noa we have a silk dress ideal for those special summer occasions and it will make an exceptional outfit for a wedding. One of the key features to this dress are the sleeves; a pretty crochet lace and beaded detail cover the front while the fine chiffon material falls over the shoulders. The pleats which run down the front ensure the dress becomes floaty and feminine and the knee length hem keep it sophisticated. The hem then hangs longer at the back to a point. The dress is slightly transparent adding to the delicate look, it can be worn with a simple slip in a beige or contrasting colour to give it an all together different look. Tunics are the epitome of versatility, especially as they can be worn as short dresses with leggings or slips but also over trousers. I love our new Raphael Tunic as it can be worn various different ways and is a great basis to any outfit, enabling you to dress it up or down. It’s jet black and has a subtle stitched pattern throughout the fabric. Because the material is 100% viscose it is light and soft, the style is loose with a slight bat-wing sleeve. It can be taken in with a belt, cinching in the waist. Today I am wearing mine with our Sunflower Sateen trousers in a light grey for a contrast. This could then be dressed up with heels such as our pretty pink wedges or for a more casual look, worn with our canvas pumps. At Noa Noa, we love this new tunic and at £59.00 it’s a great purchase.

The maxi-dress, one of the most popular styles to grace catwalks and the high-streets last year, still has its part to play for Summer 2012. A strong reaction to the tiny body-con dresses that had dominated, the maxi-dress embraced a boho-chic, laid-back Hippy look and had something of a feminist message in the fashion world, drawing inspiration from the decade of second-wave feminism – the 1970s. The arrival of the maxi-dress meant that dressing was no longer about showing off as much of the the female body as possible, but about being able to enjoy clothes while still feeling comfortable and feminine at the same time (a combination which is often hard to come by in high fashion). The maxi-dress waved goodbye to the dresses that women felt confined in – too tight, too short, too suggestive – and welcomed loose, light styles, that could easily be thrown on at the height of summer and leave us feeling cool and elegant.

And so, you will be pleased to hear, Noa Noa has welcomed back the maxi-dress in the summer collection. Like last years, the Gasson Cotton Maxi Dress is made from 100% cotton and dyed using only natural vegetable dyes – it’s a long process and achieves lovely soft, pastel tones. After dying, the garment is washed carefully in organic soap and twisted into a knot, which means it arrives in store smelling wonderful and has a unique creased effect. This special dying and drying process makes the finished product worthy of Woodstock, 1969 – the dress really captures that effortless Hippy style that so characterises the early 1970s and the political fervour that surrounds the decade. Sometimes, in summer, there’s nothing quite so nice as wearing a simple beach dress, something we can feel comfortable in when the heat gets too much. Although summer‘s bright colours and luxe fabrics can be seductive, a basic, black jersey dress is often the most effortlessly chic way to negotiate summer dressing.

This summers St. Raphael Dress at Noa Noa captures that lovely, laid-back holiday look – with a seersucker, elasticated bandeau top and sweet tie-up straps, there’s something unavoidably beachy about it. Tunics make a wonderful transitional garment and they really are one of the few pieces that can be worn all year round. Whether over leggings and flat sandals at the start of summer or over jeans and boots in winter, the tunic is one of the most useful and versatile items of clothing a woman can own.

The Seine Stripe Tunic, one of the final pieces from our Summer collection, is a particularly sweet tunic for the summer. In seaside-style blue and white stripes, this lovely nautical-esque top is ideal for wearing in the day time – try paring with navy blue leggings (as seen in the outfit of the week) and flat sandals. A tapered trouser is a must-have this season, especially when they come in soft fabrics. Our Sunflower Sateen trousers are just that, they are the epitome of chic and versatility. Every summer inevitably brings with it a special occasion – be it a wedding or a garden party – for which we need to be dressed our best. But finding something suitable can be often be hard – you need to pick and item that fits the tone of the occasion, that you will feel comfortable in and, preferably, something that be re-worn throughout the season.
