3 Reasons to Love the Legging…

Ess Lace Long Leggings, £25.00. For more information, click the link. For more Accessories, click here.

Leggings – the number one staple for 1980s dressing – have come and gone from the world of fashion over the last few decades. Having recently experienced a popular renaissance, the legging appears to be disappearing gradually from high fashion (the penchant for wearing them as trousers might have been the nail in the coffin?) but that doesn’t mean that they need to be banished from our wardrobes. The legging may not be the pinnacle of style at this moment in time but, without a doubt, it remains an absolute essential building block of any successful wardrobe. We’ll show you why…

Ess Lace Long Leggings in Black

1. Layering

The legging really is the key to layering. Forget all notions you might already have of the legging – we’re not talking ‘substitute-for trousers‘ style. A thin, lightweight legging (ours are made from viscose which really is like a second skin) provides an absolutely essential base layer to achieve that ultra cool, multilayered look. Forget the skinny jean – it adds too much bulk to your outfit and it’s too heavy for the summer. This is about teaming lovely, lightweight pieces together – thin cottons, floaty chiffon, lacey knitwear – for a timelessly wearable look.

2. Colour

Ok, so the brightly coloured skinny jean has come back into fashion, but are you really going to invest in a pair of jeans that are likely to see the light of day maybe once or twice? Because, let’s face it, the vast majority of us just aren’t prepared to try and pull off coloured jeans – which is where the legging comes in. Spending £25 on a pair of coloured leggings is much more realistic not to mention more wearable. A pair of poppy coloured leggings under a dress or tunic (or worn with layers, see above) just adds a really on trend and fuss free splash of colour to your summer look.

3. Comfort (aka Sports Luxe)

Whatever the high fashion magazines tell you, never let stylish dressing be at the expense of your own comfort – it makes for quite an unpleasant experience with beautiful clothes and you’ll find it’s much harder to pull off a look if you don’t feel comfortable and confident in it. The legging, as we know, is number one in the comfort stakes – just the easiest, most wearable garment to have ever graced the world of fashion. Usually comfort clothes and catwalk chic are opposing forces but, luckily for us, this season sees the continuance of sports luxe (our favourite style to come off the catwalks…ever?). Of course, sports luxe is about incorporating ultra luxe pieces (as the name suggests) into your look, but the basic viscose legging is a great place to start with the look just layer over some gorgeous pieces (you see, it all comes down to layering in the end) for a perfect, take on this seasons best look.

Take Me To the Beach

The beautiful beach weather is officially wending its way to us, as the summer approaches – even if only on your summer holidays! There really is nothing that says summer so much as a day trip to a glorious sandy beach on a swelteringly hot day: the ice creams, the ice cold sea water after the sun hot sand, the blissful hours of reading (aka tanning) – sound idyllic? You’ve probably already got your swimwear ready – be it cute separates or a beautifully cut-out all-in-ones – but have you started to think about all the little extras yet? The bag, the hat, the coverup? Thought not. We’ll show you a sneak peak at some of the best from Noa Noa‘s High Summer collection.

1. The Bag

Le Brun Bag, £45.00. For more information, click the link. For more Accessories, click here.

Le Brun Bag in Dark Mercury

A big, slouchy cotton beach bag is an absolute essential. One always underestimates the sheer amount of stuff you end up taking to the beach on a day out (towels, sun block, books, snacks, water, swimwear, extra layers for the evening, etc). So make sure you get a bag that’s plenty big enough to cram all of your things into. Additionally, you want to make sure you choose a bag that’s washable – at the end of the day, you’ll will be coming home with sand marks, sun block smears and ice cream stains on your bag so a durable, washable fabric, like cotton, is an absolute essential. The Le Brun Bag is the epitome of the summer beach bag. Oversized and made from cotton, with a chunky strap for extra comfort, the Le Brun Bag will see you through the summer like a loyal companion. A drawstring, cord fastening keeps the look slouchy cool while keeping all your things together and zipped, inside pouches will keep your valuables safe. Best of all, the Le Brun Bag is a bright, bold blue so it will add a really striking splash of colour to your beach-wear – the ultimate accessory!

2. The Cover Up

Ess Lyocell Top, £35.00. For more information, click the link. For more Tops, click here.

Ess Lyocell Top

One of the most important things to take with you to the beach – which has a tendency to get overlooked – is the cover up. It really doesn’t have to be difficult (or pricey, for that matter). Forget sarongs (who actually knows how to tie those properly and make them look chic?) and even a dress is too much fuss. The Ess Lyocell Top is our number one pick for the summer cover up. Little more than a long length top, the Ess Lyocell is so easy to just throw over your bikini. But the best thing about it, is the lovely, natural lyocell which is super silky soft and slightly translucent (the last thing you want to put over damp swim-wear on a hot day is something thick or heavy) plus is dries particularly quickly (a useful property for any beach wear!). Available in a range of colours, you can pick one to match your swim-wear, a bold pop of colour, or something a little more neutral (like black or brown). And after the beach? Well, the Ess Lyocell Top is one of the most wearable of Noa Noa’s long sleeved basics so, unlike the sarong, you can wear it again and again – now that’s £35.00 very well spent!

For more lovely Noa Noa beachwear pieces, pop in store (or, if you can’t make it in, give us a call on 01273818133) where we have beautiful bikinis, cute costumes, sunglasses, straw hats and plenty more!

How To Wear…The Ess Lyocell Dress

Ess Lyocell Dress, £45.00. For more information, click the link. For more Dresses, click here.

Ess Lyocell Dress in Black

The Ess Lyocell Dress is a beautiful example of a well designed basic – simple, inexpensive and easy to wear. It’s a style that returns seasonally at Noa Noa, always slightly altered, because of its timeless wearability and unmitigated success in store. Made from 100% lyocell, a natural fibre with the soft, fluidity of silk, but the breathable quality of cotton (and just as easy to wash), once you’ve tried the Ess Lyocell Dress, you realise you just can’t live without it. We’ll show you how to wear the Ess Lyocell Dress, using existing pieces from your wardrobe and new, one off’s that you can afford to invest in after making such a saving!

1. The Jacket:

For a relaxed look, keep the dress as simple as possible – wear with black tights if the weather necessitates them, or bare legs in the sun. The only choice you need to make, is what jacket to wear over – because, if you keep the look simple, this is the dress that will really showcase the jacket. For an on trend, tough look, team with a heavy, leather biker jacket in black – the all black keeps the look unbelievably cool and chic  (while flattering and super easy to wear). For a more summery take, throw a boxy denim jacket over the top and add sunglasses and sandals. Alternatively, use the Ess Lyocell Dress to show off a lighter jacket – the Giuseppe Quilt Jacket or the Nostalgic Stripe Jacket at Noa Noa (both pictured below) will brighten the look for the season and add some contrast against the black.

2. Layering:

Fragile Knit Cardigan in Dusty Pink

The other way to wear the Ess Lyocell Dress, is to keep it as a base and experiment with layering (the thin, silky fabric really makes this dress a second skin so its absolutely ideal for layering over). Throw a lightweight tee over the top or play around with beautifully lightweight knitwear pieces, like the Fragile Knit Cardigan. Long line cardi‘s work well over the dress too – try the Soft Knit Cardigan, with its tapered length, to achieve a really textured look. Head to the Knitwear section of the website for more inspiration. Finally, try layering under the dress – the thinness of the lyocell makes the dress ever so slightly translucent, so work some bright, poppy colours underneath – the tissue paper thin Cotton Jersey Vests are ideal and come in all the seasonal colours (opt for Bristol or Cobalt for a nice, strong colour).

3. Accessorize:

Balmet Necklace

Nothing lets you play around with accessories as well as a flat, black background. Add a really fab, statement necklace, like the Balmet Necklace, which will work well well with the round neckline of the dress. Alternatively, team a scarf for a bold splash of colour – even in summer, you can work a lightweight, linen scarf into your outfit – try the Ess Lines Scarf. Tights, leggings and socks can all be swapped around to achieve different looks with the Ess Lyocell Dress – experiment with colour, weight and texture.

How To Make the Most of Your Occasion Wear

Summer Breeze Dress, £99.00. For more information, click the link. For more Dresses, click here.

So, summer’s on its way and with it inevitably comes a series of spectacular events and occasions for which the glamorous dress code is number one priority. So far, so good. The only problem is, that no sooner have you forked out a small fortune on a gorgeous dress, you find that the occasions have dried up and and your beautiful, new treasure has to be stowed away at the back of your wardrobe until next year (by which time you’re ready to hunt for a brand new, show-stopping piece!). What, then is the solution to this catastrophic (in shopping terms at least!) dilemma? Pick your dress wisely and you’ll end up with something which, when cleverly dressed down, will look just as fantastic as summer day-wear and perfect for holidays.

Summer Breeze Dress in Light Caviar

Maxi dresses tend to be the best style for bridging the occasion/day-wear gap – worthy of red carpet glamour for the night, but laid back, beach-chic for the day. The Summer Breeze Dress (doesn’t the name just do it for you!?) is, therefore, the key piece this summer for those of you who have a list of exciting events planned over the coming months. A beautiful, floor length dress with a flattering and elegant empire line, it just doesn’t get more glamorous than this. A sleeveless style, just throw on a shawl or thin, lacy cardigan for a little coverage, or keep your arms bared for a lovely, summery feel. A gorgeous, dove grey, the Summer Breeze Dress is printed with a lovely lilac, floral print throughout – great for a summer wedding or outdoors-based event. What is so great about this dress is that it’s really quite simple – the empire line is pulled tight with a drawstring and it just doesn’t require any flouncy frills to make it stunning. For your event, add a pretty jewelled belt over the empire line and chunky heels or wedges. Accessorize as you wish. But for the day, the simplicity of the dress really makes it easy to wear on the beach or in town. Keep it laid back – just add flat sandals, minimal accessories and relaxed, loose hair.

Outfit of the Week

Welcome to our new Outfit of the Week, featuring the gorgeous L’ess Voile Printed Skirt, £59.00.Weeks of beautiful sunshine and beginning to pack away our Winter woollies have has us all optimistic about Summer approaching, but in typical British ‘Summertime’ fashion, we are graced with grey skies, blustery winds and showers again. However this can mean only one thing – festival season is upon us! The one time of the year when copious amounts of rain and mud only make for a better time (provided your tent is safely on dry land) and when the constraints of certain trends and styles are abandoned for an altogether more bohemian and relaxed vibe. Since festival fashion became a trend in itself thanks to Woodstock in the 1960s, the options are endless when it comes to packing your trusty rucksack, but thankfully at Noa Noa we have a few ideas to get you started…

The L’ess Voile Printed Skirt, £59.00, is the ultimate festival companion this Summer, with a floral print to envy the perfect country garden, pleats a plenty to create a carefree bohemian vibe and a truly flattering shape for comfort as well as style. A grey and black floral design creates a stylish contrast against the cream, but the colours also make for versatile outfit options – ideal for light festival packing. A flat waistband creates a flattering and feminine shape that will keep you looking cool even when you’re dancing through muddy fields in the early hours of the morning and the added detail of mother of pearl buttons creates a unique touch to keep your look classic. The floaty lined material creates a full-volumed skirt (perfect for twirling and spinning along to your favourite band) yet still remaining lightweight to keep you cool should you be blessed with a festival heatwave! This skirt is gorgeous whatever the weather, from a festival in the English countryside to sunny Spain, or equally as gorgeous teamed with pumps and a fitted jacket for something slightly smarter for this beautiful skirt.

Space saving items that also allow for layering are always a winner when it comes to packing for a festival, and the Cotton Jersey Vests, £25.00, are here to banish all your warm weather woes. These vests are the trues essentials for High Summer, and whatever the occasion, these vests are here to serve your every need! The lightweight cotton material makes layering a doddle when the temperature drops, without the worry of unnecessary lump and bumps, yet the delicacy of the fine fabric looks equally lovely on its own for a true bohemian festival look. The variety of colours means the options are endless for putting together your festival wardrobe, but look equally as feminine teamed with a simple pair of jeans or skirt for an everyday look. Cover up with a fitted jacket for a more formal look, or a cute cardigan for a pretty alternative.

Festival season is the time when accessorising rules go out the window and are replaced by flower garlands, feathers and more fringing than a Cowboy and Western film, but we’ve kept it chic and simple for a pretty and fun approach. The Toulouse Scarf, £39.00, has landed in time for the long-awaited release of ‘The Great Gatsby’, with an utterly dreamy design that Daisy Buchanan herself would covet. The peachy pink colour offsets the cream of the skirt beautifully, whilst three lines of beaded detailing at the hem makes the scarf hang wonderfully. Two appliquéd gem details give a subtle nod to the romantic 1920s trend to create a more sophisticated take on festival accessorising. A statement necklace such as this Marble Necklace, £18.00, hints at the tribal/aztec trend without being over the top and retaining a chic feel. The pink cord ties in beautifully with the scarf, whilst the chalk tone of the pendant compliments that of the skirt and vests. No matter what the temperature is, we Brits have an everlasting love affair with socks in all manner of materials, and these Seashell Gaugin Socks, £15.00, will serve you come rain or shine. The fine knit of the socks make for the perfect Summer socks – team with ankle boots and a dress for a romantic look, perfect for city getaways or a Saturday stroll, or wear with wellies for the ideal festival partnership.

The real show-stealers have to be the Rice Rubber Boots, £59.00. Made from 100% natural rubber, these wellies are wonderfully flexible and fold up to fit in their very own bag – the most innovative way to combat the festival trenches! With an elasticated top cuff in a smooth cream tone, these Rice Rubber Boots are sure to be the subject of envy amongst other festival-goers. Team with a printed dress for a 1940s ‘Edge of Love’ look for countryside strolls, or wear with jeans and shorts for a stylish take on Summer showers. These are truly the most versatile of the rubber boot variety and with the added option of rolling down for the ultimate relaxed approach to weather-proofing your feet, you’ll be taking every opportunity to puddle jump!

The Daytime Summer Top

Ocean Pointelle Top, £35.00. For more information, click the link. For more Tops, click here.

No matter how many delicious dresses, skirts and shorts the fashion world throws at us, the truth is that most of us tend to spend the summer still wedded to our skinny jeans. It’s not that we don’t wear the occasional beauty – for holidays, special events and blisteringly hot days there’s nothing like slipping into something a little more dressy or floaty – it’s just that skinny jeans still have an unbreakable hold over our wardrobes, for better or for worse. The time may be approaching for a total trouser turn around and the supreme rule of the skinny may be nearing its close but, until then, we owe it to the skinny to hang on to the end and see it through a few more seasons in style. After all, such a neutral, wearable, comfortable and flattering style can hardly be a fashion faux pas (plus, they look utterly great rolled up with cute sandals in summer!).

Ocean Pointelle Top in Light Arona

So, for summer, the best thing to do is to pick out a few tops that will really bring your skinnies to life. From occasion pieces to easy-to-throw-on, casual day wear, investing in summer tops is never, ever a futile errand (besides, if the skinny really is on it’s way out, at least the tops will see you through the trouser transition). The Ocean Pointelle Top, just in store in the final wave of the High Summer collection, is your new favourite summertime basic – the piece thats going to make you fall in love with your old reliable jeans all over again. A simple vest shape, this loose and lightweight cotton top is long in the body so it’s a great to pair with skinny jeans and can be ruched up to the hip for that ultra cool ‘just-thrown-together’ look. Available in Light Arona, a soft, pale blue that really evokes a cool, sea breeze (just right for wearing in the summer sun!) the Ocean Pointelle Top is great for adding a bit of cool colour to your wardrobe. Finished off with five small, shell buttons running down the front, which can be opened up on hot days or if you’re wearing a bikini underneath on the beach or on holiday. The whole fabric is embossed with subtle pointelle in a geometric pattern, just adding a little detail to the simple top. But best of all? The vest straps cross over at the back, creating a cute teardrop cut out and generally gorgeous shape (there’s nothing like a detailed back on a pretty summer top!). So easy to wear, just throw the Ocean Pointelle Top on with your skinny jeans (turned up, don’t forget) and sandals for the perfect summer day-wear.

The Midi Skirt

Allori Cotton Skirt, £89.00. For more information, click the link. For more Skirts, click here.

Over the past few seasons, skirts have generally fallen into two camps on the high street – either the super short mini or the extra long maxi, while the knee length skirt seems to have disappeared altogether. Both styles are tricky to wear and require some work in terms of putting an outfit together and, then, pulling it off with confidence. Looking fantastic is, of course, terribly important to all of us at Noa Noa Brighton, but we don’t think it should ever be a struggle. All of our pieces are as much about utility as they are about aesthetics – they’re clothes for the on-the-go woman who wants to look great while she bustles through her busy life. Which is why the midi skirt is so important.

Allori Cotton Skirt in Light Cobalt

Never overlook the midi skirt. Although it may not quite conform to the extremities of either mini or maxi, it is, arguably, the most flattering and the most chic of all skirt lengths. By far the most adaptable style, the midi can be teamed with tights and chunky heels for stylish evening wear or, come summer, kept cool and relaxed with a floaty tee and sandals. While the midi and maxi lengths have been doing the rounds, the midi skirt has been quietly making itself known on the catwalks, harking back to the relaxed, quirky cool of the 1970s. Unlike the 1960s – the era of looking ‘done’ with groomed hair, heavy make up and structured styles – the 70′s is all about looking ‘undone’ – think relaxed wavy hair, gentle make up and lovely, loose styles thrown together for that ultra cool, laid back look – in short, a much easier trend to wear on a day-today basis. The Allori Cotton Skirt is Noa Noa’s concession to the 70s midi this season. 100% cotton, this lovely, lightweight skirt is ideal for hot days, with its pleated, floaty shape, folds of soft fabric and delightful duck egg blue shade. An exquisitely simple piece, the Allori Cotton Skirt is really all about the gentle, relaxed shape and chic calf length – so forget frills and flounces. The only details are two pleated panels, at the front and back, which add texture and movement. A really easy skirt to wear, simply throw on a loose, plain t-shirt and flat, strappy sandals for a look that will see you through city breaks, seaside trips and country picnics alike. For the evening add chunky wedges or wood sandals and a dressier top – but keep the shapes relaxed and unstructured. Add a few accessories (opt for wood and leather pieces, rather than glitz and shimmer), and wear your hair in loose, soft waves around your face for an on trend and oh-so-chic summertime look.

Buying on a Budget: The Three Key Pieces for Your Summer Wardrobe

So the hot weather has finally arrived – and what a long time coming it has been! Here at Noa Noa Brighton we simply can’t resist investing in a few really key pieces for the summer (and now we no longer have to stow them away at the backs of our wardrobes!). With a keen eye for shape, colour, style and fabric, we’ll show you how to make your money go further this season and what the most important pieces are to invest in. Happy shopping!

Visual Jersey L/S Top in Black, £39.00

Relaxed shapes tend to be the best thing to opt for come summer. Unless you’re shopping for an occasion, keep your styles loose fitting and unstructured – not only the most on trend way of dressing this season, but also the most practical, comfortable and wearable. This is a look that’s all about keeping it laid back, so buy into very simple basics that won’t blow the budget. A good place to start is the Visual Jersey Top (pictured above), an 100% cotton, long sleeved basic. Unlike your average long sleeved, the Visual Jersey Top works beautifully on its own – the button detail and sheer panel at the back save the top from looking like a plain basic while the floaty shape and thin cotton keep it perfect for the summer. Available in Black, Chalk, Walnut (a soft, nutty brown) and Cameo (a gentle, pistachio green) you can decide whether to opt for versatile neutral or summery splash of colour.

Summer Jersey Shorts in Light Caviar, £39.00

But what to team your loose, long sleeved’s with? Most of you will, no doubt, possess a favourite pair of skinnies that see you through season after season and will continue to for summer. But what about all those beautifully hot days that we are sure to be graced with?! A simple pair of shorts is the obvious solution, but finding a pair that are neither skin tight nor knicker length seems to be a struggle this season. Never fear – Noa Noa has the solution, with the Summer Jersey Shorts! Keeping the feel relaxed, these cute, grey, jersey shorts are so easy to throw on with almost any tee and flat, strappy sandals, keeping your daytime look effortlessly cool. A loose fit, the Summer Jersey Shorts are one of the few pairs that really cut a flattering figure and, with their lightweight cotton, these will be a godsend on hot holidays when you need something practical and comfortable to wear. It’s so easy to slip into girly floral come summer, but keeping your look androgynous and more utilitarian, with the Summer Jersey Shorts, will look infinitely cooler and more unique.

Smooth Viscose Dress in Caviar, £59.00

Finally, the dress (because we just couldn’t get through the season without one or two, could we!?). The Smooth Viscose Dress is set to be an absolute favourite – one of those real fail-safe pieces, sure to be awarded pride of place in any wardrobe. A jersey and viscose blend, this loose, unstructured dress is beautifully fluid, hanging in gorgeous drapes and coming to the knee. A sleeveless style, the Smooth Viscose Dress is perfect for keeping you feeling and looking cool on smoking hot days. Sheer panels at the sides provide a bit of sultry detail to this simple, relaxed dress, while a gathered panel at the back adds a little shape (though the overall feel of the dress remains laid back and loose). A really simple piece to wear – just add shoes and accessories of your choice, for night or day.

A collection of simple and affordable pieces, these three key items provide an essential backdrop to your summer wardrobe. Though they may be lacking in the bright colours most people tend to associate with summer, it’s their neutralness which cements them as such important and enduring pieces. Armed with these select items, you can build your summer wardrobe up with colours, accessories, different shapes and styles but rest assured that your style remains timeless and intensely chic. Enjoy.

The Nautical: Summer’s Most Wearable Style

Seine Stripe Top, £45.00. For more information, click the link. For more Tops, click here.

There’s nothing like adding a little nautical style to your look to bring it up to date for the summer. Seasons come and seasons go, but always there remain the few timeless and inherently chic looks that will carry you through summer after summer, working well with your existing wardrobe and lasting until you wear it out with love – the nautical is just such a one.

Seine Stripe Top in Eclipse

The Seine Stripe Top at Noa Noa this season captures just what we love about the nautical style (and, invoking one of the world’s most stylish cities, how can it fail?!). A simple, cute cami, the Seine Stripe Top combines the pretty navy blue and white sailor stripe with lovely broderie anglaise – surely the most summery style of lace. A navy blue, broderie anglaise trim sits along the neckline and forms two chunky straps, providing the only necessary detail on the top. A lightweight and comfortable cotton, the body of the top sits in a slightly a-line shape, falling loosely from the fitted bust. Coming to the hip, the Seine Stripe Top is the ideal piece to wear casually with a pair of black or denim skinnies and sandals for a no fuss, summer friendly, daytime look. Accessorising can be kept minimal, as the delicate broderie anglaise provides all the embellishment you could need around the neckline and this is a look that works so beautifully when kept simple. Just add a golden tan and oversized sunnies to finish off this toned down, but ultra cool, summertime look.
